Terms of Service
Last updated: February 24, 2026
1. Overview
Paperwall is a free, open-source micropayment protocol for web content. It consists of a publisher SDK, a browser extension, and a CLI agent with an A2A (agent-to-agent) server. By using any Paperwall software, you agree to these terms.
2. The Protocol
Paperwall is an open protocol licensed under GPL-3.0. Anyone can inspect, fork, modify, or self-host the software. There is no central authority controlling the protocol. Kobaru operates a reference implementation — including the facilitator service at gateway.kobaru.io — but you are free to run your own infrastructure.
3. Your Wallet
When you use the Chrome extension or CLI agent, a crypto wallet is created on your device. Your private keys are encrypted locally and never leave your device unless you explicitly export them. You are solely responsible for securing your password and any backup of your private keys. Lost keys cannot be recovered by Kobaru or anyone else.
4. Payments
Payments are made in USDC on supported blockchain networks, currently SKALE and Base. When you approve a payment, you sign an EIP-712 authorization that allows a facilitator to submit the transfer on-chain. Transactions are final and irreversible. Publishers set their own prices. Paperwall does not take a cut from content payments.
5. Facilitator Service
Kobaru operates a default facilitator service that processes payment settlements. The facilitator submits signed authorizations to the blockchain on behalf of users. Facilitators may charge processing fees. You can choose to use a different facilitator or run your own.
6. Open Source
All Paperwall software is released under the GNU General Public License v3.0. You may use, modify, and distribute it under the terms of that license. The source code is available at github.com/kobaru-io/paperwall.
7. Disclaimer
Paperwall software is provided "as is" without warranty of any kind. Kobaru is not liable for any loss of funds, failed transactions, or damages arising from the use of the protocol, extension, CLI agent, or facilitator service. Cryptocurrency transactions carry inherent risks including price volatility and smart contract vulnerabilities.
8. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as the protocol evolves. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated date. Continued use of Paperwall software after changes constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
9. Contact
